Alex Soto

Like many Dominican riders Alex Soto was inspired by the local riders who had an early career in Kiteboarding. Luciano Gonzales and Jose Luis Ciriaco, competed in the early days of PKRA and Alex wanted to follow their lead.
He started kiting in 2004, while working in a Kite school in Cabarete. He quickly fell in love with the sport although it took him 2 months to complete his first trick. He’s been practicing every day since with the same passion and love for the sport he has had since he began.
For now Alex is concentrating on competing and is training to move up his PKRA ranking, year after year.

Alex has been traveling all around the world with the tour and enjoys discovering new places: “It’s funny that sometimes in life you want to experience new things but traveling and getting to know new cultures is the best way to accomplish this”. But Alex likes to travel for only a short while because he begins to miss his country and its people. The Dominican riders are a very close group, they share a lot together including training and they are pleased to be also sharing good results on the tour.

“I have to fight a lot to get whatever I can because it is a difficult economical situation here (in the DR), but I also work as a Kite Instructor apart from being a pro-rider. My family can never come along with me because we’re poor but I always miss them a lot as soon as I’m gone”.
Alex also like to fish, repair motorcycles for street races and hike in the mountains.
Many times Alex has tried to be on tour for the entire competition, but this year will be the first time that he can attend all tour stops and have the opportunity to show off his skills.
