Registration Day for 2014 Dakhla Kiteboarding World Cup

Mar-18-2014

Registration for the second stop of 2014 Dakhla Kiteboarding World Cup began today at the Dakhla Attitude Camp in Dakhla, Morocco, drawing an impressive lineup for both the freestyle and wave disciplines with a total of 120 riders registered. The world’s top freestyle riders converge on this spectacular isolated location to ride in the pristine flat-water setting of the lagoon while a perfect right hand point-break lures professional wave riders.

Men’s freestyle trials for the main event begin tomorrow, and due to many big names not having competed in the first stop of the year in Panama, the trials will see an incredibly stacked lineup of both hungry up-and-comers as well as tour veterans, battling for the coveted seats in the main event. With so much on the line, the competition is sure to be fierce with 63 men registered and 12 women, which will set the stage for an interesting ladder for the main event. Notably, Youri Zoon and Liam Whaley will compete in the trials after returning from injuries. Robinson Hillario and Carlos Mario will also be noteable ones to watch after coming off of recent podium successes in the past two events.

This Dakhla stop marks the first wave event of the year with the world’s best wave riders present, including the past top-ranked men and women eager to showcase their skills at the classic right-hand wave of Oum Lamboir. With nine female competitors and 50 men registered, the men’s ladder will see the running of trials to get the top 24 men. With current IKA world champions Keahi de Aboitiz and Moona White present, as well as the top ranked 5 men and top 4 women, competitors are pumped to battle for points in the overall tour ranking in pursuit of the 2014 world title.

For this event, 24 nationalities are present. Tomorrow will see a riders meeting at 10:00 am and following will be the official opening ceremony with the local officials to celebrate and welcome what is sure to be a spectacular event. Tomorrow’s forecast looks promising for trials and possibly the beginning of the main event single elimination freestyle.
