Exciting Events to Come with the PKRAJun-02-2012
Over the next few months, PKRA competitors will converge on the expansive beaches of Adicora, Venezuela, Istanbul Turkey, and St. Peter Ording, Germany – looking to claim the champion titles in each respective location.
Coming soon and beginning on June 13th, the Copa Mundial de Kitesurf Adicora will provide both freestyle riders and racers the opportunity to showcase their best skills in one of the windiest places on the South American continent. Alex Pastor (ESP) and Bruna Kajiya (BRA), the current first place freestyle competitors will surely remain motivated to defend their titles at the top, as will racers Bryan Lake (USA) and Katja Roose (NED).
In Adicora, the competition area will offer flat conditions on the inside with small waves on the outside, and comfortable 30-degree water. Considered a hidden gem along the Caribbean Sea, the area stands out as the perfect place for every kind of riding, with consistent side-on winds and unmatched variety for all styles of kiting. With excellent conditions (15-30 knots average) and the best riders in the world battling it out for their piece of $47,000 in prize money, the Copa Mundial de Kitesurf Adicora will surely provide the ultimate competitive spectacle, with non-stop action that is guaranteed to please viewers and spectators around the world.
The next event - the Burn Kiteboard World Tour 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey, will also offer prime conditions with small waves and an average of 15-20 knots of wind. Starting on June 27th and ending on July 1st, this location will provide PKRA riders with a chance to compete on the Marmara Sea and near one of the region’s largest cities. A total prize amount of $22,500 will be offered at this event to winners of the race and freestyle kite-masters events. Major sponsors of this event include Oakley, Virgin Radio, and Burc Beach, among others.
Finally, St. Peter Ording, Germany, is ready and waiting to host the Beetle Kitesurf World Cup 2012 – one of the longest standing and biggest kiteboarding events of the year. Standing out as a favored destination by competitors and spectators alike, this event site becomes a hub of activity once the PKRA arrives, drawing thousands of onlookers and packing the beach with varied entertainment, regardless of the wind readings. Conditions at this event on the North Sea range from 12-18 knots with normally side on-shore winds from the Northwest direction. Choppy water and quickly rising and falling tide also define this site, making it a challenging yet fun spot for riders to compete at the highest level of competition. Past winners of this event include Youri Zoon (NED), Alex Pastor (ESP), and Gisela Pulido (ESP).
