Cabarete Kiteboarding World Cup 2010
Registration commenced with a world breaking record of 20 nationalities. Riders from Australia, Aruba, Lebanon, Brazil, France, Germany and Canada to name a few made their way to Cabarete, Dominican Republic yesterday for the third stop of the PKRA World Cup 2010.
The sun was shinning and the wind was howling as spectators hovered to watch the Dominican freestyle championship. Four wildcards were given at this competition enabling them a spot to compete against the best in the world at the PKRA main event, which will kick off today. Alex Soto (F-One, D.R.) proved that he’s amongst the best winning the Dominican Republic freestyle competition while fellow teammate Robinson Hilario (F-One, D.R.) came in second place. These two competitors as well as Ariel Corniel (Ozone, D.R) and Jose Miguel Corniel (EH, D.R.) will earn themselves each a wildcard into the main PKRA World Cup freestyle event.
Registration was a complete success. It is the first time this year that more than 39 male competitors signed up which means that trials will be held this morning in order to eliminate 7 men. 14 female competitors rushed their way to the registration line proving that they are here to test the waters of Cabarete in hopes of earning a world cup event title.
The Cabarete Kiteboarding World Cup opening ceremony kicked off at LAX Lounge & Bar with live bands and highly energetic music playing as many competitors, organizers and locals danced around on the sandy beach. Kiteboarding legend Laurel Eastman hosted the evening and announced the official opening of the Cabarete 2010 World Cup event.
Without the help of many supporters this event would not have been possible. A huge thanks goes out to all of those who made this event possible and bringing back the world cup to Cabarete.
Skipper's meeting will be held on the beach today at 11:00am.
