EVENT SCHEDULE :

Fuerteventura schedule 2010

NOTABLE :

For Nine years in a row, the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association (PKRA) – the
world’s leading professional kiteboarding organization –  is bringing the events back to Fuerteventura
soil. In total the event is counting the 10th year of kiteboarding competition on the Playa Sotavento.  The event dubbed “Fuerteventura PKRA Kiteboarding Super Grand Slam 2010,” will be a ten-day event of extreme kiteboarding action with the biggest prize money of any kiteboarding event worldwide. The highlights will include the IKA Speed World Championships, which will run from July 29th until August 2nd and the Freestyle and Course Racing Competition, which will start on August 3rd and run through August 7th, and will  be participated in by professional riders from more than 18 different countries. Organized by René Egli and the local townhall of Pájara, featuring €55,000 in total prize money, the Fuerteventura event is well-known as the most extreme PKRA Kiteboarding World Tour event because of guaranteed strong winds of this island.

The kick-off games will start on July 28, 2010 with the Inscription & the Welcome Party for the Speed competitors, followed by 5 days of pure high speed runs. Then on August 2nd the Inscription and welcome party for the freestyle will take place and the event will
run until August 7. Expect to see some of the best freestyle kiteboarders live in action performing their
biggest jumps and difficult tricks, pushing themselves in the extreme conditions. In addition to the
freestyle this year will feature  the return of the course racing world cup to this high wind location. Course racing in Fuerteventura is considered Extreme Course Racing as is one of the very few places in the planet where where there is a high chance of having races in 35 knots.

The venue will be Playa Sotavento, without a doubt the best beach in Fuerteventura and a paradise
of immense ecological prosperity. The area abounds with sunny weather condition and strong winds
blowing at an average of 18 to 35 knots. These, combined with an average water temperature of 22
degrees Celsius (71.6 degrees Fahrenheit) and a general wind direction of side offshore to side shore
makes the beaches of Sotavento a perfect and spectacular setting for the PKRA Super Grand Slam event.
